i recently saw the movie 'knowing' with nicolas cage showing the destruction of everything by the solar rays

there will be no early warning.

Whatever will come will come with no warning from government or other world leaders. It will be upon us like the bomb was to the people of Hiroshima.

Not saying a bunker is the best idea, but don't expect much time to brace yourself for the "event".

its pretty amazing that some of these places that took millions of dollars to build in the 60s and 60s are selling for less than a million. Only the ones that have been spruced up are pricey but still just over a million (and have their own private landing strip and acres and acres of land to boot)

The best one is actually in Washington state, near Medicine Lake. Someone grab this and hold on to it because the town is starting to grow around it. If 2012 goes bad. You have a great bunker to live in. If nothing major happens in 2012, the real estate market will boom and you have acres of land to parcel out. Its in my sights so you may be bidding against me.

part of what you say is true, BUT ..

the world *has* been getting ample warning for years. severe changes in climate, increasing earthquake and volcano severity and frequency, earth rotation slowing, magnetic field strength reducing, meteor/asteroid stuff hitting us - and other planets - more and more, other planets experiencing global warming.

It would need to be strong enough to survive a given disaster, as well as be deep enough to prevent any strong radiation fallout (which actually isn't that deep).

There are a lot of grave situations that could happen (if not in 2012, tomorrow!); one tsunami comes to mind, that has a potencial to wipe out the entire north american eastern cost; will your basement survive the flooding?

You have to wonder about the cost of restoration, and the chances that damages have occured to the structural integrity of the bunkers over the last 50 years. It could cost a million just to restore them.

Depending on the size, just work on the immediate living areas, if time and funds allow, you can expand the repairs.
