I have a frightening feeling that Lake Michigan could suddenly empty into the Mississippi.. What is the potential for the entire state of Illinois being wiped out after a New Madrid earthquake?? If the ground shook hard enough - could Chicago and its suburbs be at risk??

Inland tsunamis are obviously possible.

Look at what happened recently in Queensland, Australia.

Of course. There is no place on the planet (continents) that is free from the possibility of earthquakes.

To be perfectly safe from earthquakes, get yourself a large boat and hang out above the deepest part of the ocean.

Of course, there are other non-earthquake dangers to worry about . . .
