We had a tornado warning here in northern california today, my little brother was freaking out, good thing my girl friend is from Kansas and has been through a lot of tornados.

I have lived in California my whole life (23 years) and never have seen a tornado warning.

Trying to leave California, maybe to eastern Oregon.

They happen in some strange places. Had one happen near where I live last year. We never get tornados, either.

If you are looking at Eastern Oregon, be advised; there are plenty of volcanos and not a lot of water out there. We did see some high-altitude meadows for sale one time, totalling about 500 acres. The price was ridiculously cheap, but still out of our range.

Good luck.

Look, there has been tornadoes in California but they are not very common.

http://www.tornadoproject.com/alltorns/catorn.htm

However the present El Nino conditions are rather extreme right now which have created very unstable air conditions throughout California and therefore increase the probability of tornadoes! Look at the Northern Hemisphere "infra-red" Pacific satellite images and you'll see what I mean!!!

We haven't had extreme weather like this here in California in many, many years now and if it continues raining like this for another week or so, it will break all prior records!!!

You get one little tornado warning and your ready to move?? So long as you dont live in a trailer park, tornadoes in California are once in a lifetime experiences (well maybe 2) I lived thru a Tornado in downtown Los Angeles and I was no less than 2 miles from its path stuck in traffic. Thats not a warning, that was an actual tornado. Tore up where I worked pretty good. Freak of nature. Never had another once since and I've lived thru 3 major earthquakes here and 1 from my home country. So long as youre prepared, the fear gets to be less intense. Better a warning here than being buried in snow every year. :P

We're going to be getting this wild weather up here in Ontario in the next couple of days....the temps are supposed to be 7 deg - unheard of here in Jan, so that means rain and lots of it.....with the ground frozen it won't be able to soak in......not good!

Very interesting given our week-long storms last week and new storms starting today!

I've been trying to find a meaning to my dream last night. Perhaps the tornado warning in CA is it.
Dreamed last night that I was in a city. I saw a metal building about 100 yds away, it was just a metal roof supported by very strong-looking steel. The wind became ferocious, however it was calm where I was standing, and I knew I was safe.
I yelled at the people to come over to where I was. They wouldn't leave.
The building crumpled down upon them. I was sad, and turned around to go find my car to leave. (Would like to think I would have run over and helped them!) So not helping them may mean in actuality it was a great distance...?
Dreams can be so hard to interpret. But the dream has this meaning for me. You can tell people they should leave an unsafe place, but you cannot make them leave.
