Hi all,

Poetry is a fascinating means of expressing innermost feelings, capturing complex issues, or rendering multi-level metaphors. The sheer freedom associated with poetry (and prose) renders it immune from critique' (albeit, not immune from editing). I am very much in love with how one can express things in a creative and eloquent manner via poems. I'm sure this creative community holds quite a few prose-minded persons, and I would love to read your work.

To ensure we have a good mix of participants, i want to set some ground rules to this particular thread. Actually, they're more like guidelines. hehe

  1. Abide by Rob's rules of order - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1562

  2. Ensure your poems do not offend - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=315

  3. Please present one poem per posting.

  4. Alternate your postings with those of others. I.e., try not to post in succession. I have learned that the subject matter and emotions of a poem are best felt when not reading a series of poems from but one author.

  5. Readers can and should render their comments, compliments, insights and ideas about any poem they read. Speak freely, but please be civil and encouraging. Poetry is a personal experience, especially to the author.

  6. All members must absolutely respect the copyrights of the authors.

Thanks all and i hope to see some inspiring prose.

Here's a little something I wrote when I was about 20.

Forlorn Weald
==========

Resonance of the trees
Whispering in the breeze
Unbroken by the Folk
Left to dilate free

Critters remain nigh
Howling pierces sky
Trunks vacant whereabouts
Hidden grotto occupied

Plunging down above
Water gushing stones
Dweller of the deep
Surface to the unknown

From silence gathered
Which might be shattered
Variants will appear
Always change about

Time will always gain
Weald will remain
Forlorn it is deemed
For how long unseen

==========================

Nice Del.
Care to expand on it's meaning?

Well it's a long time since i wrote it but if I remember rightly, it was about the untouched forest/weald as described which has not been destroyed by man by foresting or anything else that man does when they invade such areas.
How long will it be safe before man comes.

It's one of two I submitted to poetry.com which won some awards and got in some book. But I think the site might just be a big money making scam.

Yeah, been there done that.
Got in a book...woo hoo.
And in the mean time you part with cash for the privilege.
I even got some cheesy medal and cup.
The cup was so big; I gave it to my mom, which she used as a fruit bowl at the time.
It kinda mirrored the poet.

Yeah I knew something was fishy with it so I never got as far as the cup, but my Mum got me the book which arrived pretty much twisted in half with water damage.

okay, I wrote this about 9/10yrs ago.... it means a lot to me...obviously..!

I have four wonderful children, they give me unconditional love
I consider myself very lucky, even when things get quite tough..
But we all try to pull together, and see things through to the end
Then we can enjoy the good times, that are waiting for us just round the bend..
I love to watch their antics, as they make-believe in their play
The pleasure is so overwhelming, I could stand and watch them all day..
Each has their own personality, a special little thing that they do
My Nathan, Billy, Amy and Krystal, my life is for them its true..
Seeing my young ones change and grow, as time moves swiftly on
Each moment with them I cherish, their words are like a song..
And suddenly it will happen, the moment I knew would come
When they no longer depend on me, but I will forever be their MUM... :D

Love N Peace

Del has some promise.

I mostly don't enjoy poetry, but I did spend 2 years of my life attending what is probably Australia's no.1 poetry class at RMIT Melbourne.

Here's my favorite opening line:

Colder than the night before she left me

I feel somewhat the same way Rob. Poetry is appealing to some, not appealing to others, and some poetry is not appealing to anyone... except the writer. But, that's the thing with poetry. As i mentioned earlier, poetry is a personal expression. The one most likely to covet the prose, is the author of that prose. In many cases, it's a captured moment of a person's raw feelings, presented as a textual abstract. Nonetheless, i enjoy viewing other people's perspectives, via their prose.

I usually write in estonian so...

Inspiration

I have a head full of ideas
Maybe even more then a spring has leaves
I try to travel these massive seas
I see the sunlight as a tease
It burns me with it's hundred degrees

I catch the name of this breeze
I hope for no misinterpretation
Yes, its name is Inspiration
It teaches my mind levitation
----------------------------------------
At the end of the rainbow

I met nothing trapped inside something
I saw a thousand miles of graveyards
I saw dead men hitching a ride to heaven
I heard waves rapidly approaching
I saw a man slowly sinking.
I heard a young poet crying
I heard the gate closing behind me
--------------------------------------
Don't think

Switch off your brain
All it does is contain
Finally you will go insane
The fire inside is becoming mundane

Try to take the best from the day
But don't let your mind stray
She will try to betray
There ain't no chance for a replay

First you will think its fine
Before you know it you have signed
The deal from the blind
And been forever confined
-----------------------------------
Wait, what?

Feel like my soul is beginning to expand
My brain has been banned
Don't think I understand
Feels like all of it has been planned
Who the hell is in command ?!
-----------------------------
Explain

Can't explain
this hidden pain
You have scarred my heart
and stole the key to my brain

When I'm with you
Everything seems so clear
All my problems dissolve
Around you I evolve

After i look at you
I'm blinded by everything else i see
I have no choice
you hypnotize me with your voice

You carry all my thoughts with you
Robbing me blind with your smile
I loose all sense of time
You show me the silver line
------------------------------------
Bufumufu

We throw away lives
for small smiles and
those pretty blue eyes
in comparison we look unwise

For a small time
free in our minds
she fills our hearts
and then breaks us into spare parts
---------------------------------------
