my uneducated theory is simple: in alaska, oil drillers found frozen, not petrified, but frozen tropical jungles. if there was a polarity reversal, that wouldnt change the fact that the north was tropical. if polarity shifted to a former pole, rotating the earth off its current axis, say at the bermuda triangle, that would put the artic region at the equator. we have all heard of the devils triangle(bermuda triangle), 180 degrees around the earth, is the dragons triangle, both have freakish electrical disturbances, and have a measurable difference in gravity. what do you think?

hello dennis....

you're on the right track to question.....but distinguish your thoughts by identifying for yourself the differences:

polar wander
pole shift
polar reversal
axis shift
axis reversal
crustal displacement

take your pick....

sounds like a train of thought for axis shift. Perhaps implying the two triangle were once the north and south poles. (And some play with pole shifts..)

:D

Welcome dennis, not trying to steal your thunder, just trying to understand.

The continents have drifted significantly from where they were only a few hundred million years ago (there's some debate as to exactly how they drifted). Alaska was certainly in a much more tropical zone at that point, without needing the explanation of a pole shift. Here in eastern Canada, you can go to certain beaches and see petrified palm fronds in the cliff faces.

Hold on a sec....

Did you say frozen tropical forests?? Could you find the reference to this please?

Well I know about that mammoth that was found in Siberia. It appears to have been flash-frozen, still standing in a position of eating with fresh food (including tropical plants) still in its mouth. Remains of tropical insects were found in its digestive tract. Its pelvis appears to have been crushed under the weight of a massive amount of ice; this would have had to have happened before the body was frozen solid. The pile of unlikely evidence suggests that the ambient temperature dropped over -170 degrees in a matter of seconds, followed or accompanied by an unheard of amount of precipitation. That's a big WTF right there.

or a simple large scale avalanche, maybe?...or like a huge ice dam was holding back a near frozen lake of fresh water that had been melting up north....the mammoths were feeding in a valley and it was flash flooded when the ice dam broke through....this is what created the American Grand Canyon....

there are other theories available, ya'll....but I like the sudden arctic air flowing in at 100 miles per hour, too.....

btw, they are woolly mammoths....how tropical could the plants be that they are eating....ya' know?....
