If this is a repeat post I apologize.

I just received a 1-800 phone call, which I always answer as "County Morgue" to be funny.

This was a recording saying something like this is "only a test regarding a national emergency. If this was a real emergency an announcement would follow etc etc...this is only a test."

This gave me moment to pause.

Has anyone else received a phone call like this?

This was the number 1-800-791-3749

Was it a land line? Does anyone still have land lines? If so that would explain your situation.

You welcome, that will be $19.99 I'm sorry we do not accept American Express.

Yes, it was a land line.

We have to have one because out in the country where we live, our cell phone does not work
unless we stand in one corner of the house, so we still have our land line.

So are you saying we are getting charged for answering this call?

lol He was just kidding... it's a 1-800 call so there WON'T be any charges... unless it's a scam, which has been going around lately.

I think this is the 'reverse 911' system..they use it when they need to notify families in emergencies having to do with the schools. Like if the schools are closed for snow days or if there is some kind of reason you are needed to pick up your children, they have an automated system for it now. There's some other uses for it but it's very new and I don't really know much about it yet.

I don't think they were calling to tell me it's a snow day since I got the call at 7:38 p.m.

Hello Ladymoon,

I also received the call in the evening time.

I'm not sure of the exact time but it was after 6pm and before 10pm. I think it was around 8pm.

Thanks for your reply.

just a FYI note for those who only have cell phones--- hard lines still work after a disaster hits, thats why the military still uses them. :?

Our school system uses the Honeywell Alert System. They tested it on us just before Christmas, and it sounded something like that. We used to listen to the radio or watch tv for school cancellations, now they just call us and say the kids are having a snow or fog delay or closing. We had to sign up and give them our cell numbers and such though.
